When we are given the gift of a beautiful space – it often ignites our imagination to take projects to the very next level…

This is exactly what we did when we secured a new adventure play project with GreenWood Family Park in Y Felinheli, Gwynedd, Wales. Deep in the secluded forest there lay plenty of space to work with to transform the area into a mythical quest – steeped in the history of the surrounding areas and ancient Welsh folklore.

The Giant Quest concept was created to encapsulate the special qualities of GreenWood Park, with a strong reverence towards the Welsh tradition in keeping with the park’s heritage. When undertaking research for the project, the Greenspan design team were inspired by Welsh stories of friendly giants, and wanted to bring forward a play area to astound visitors and provide a truly unique experience…

This resulted in the creation of old Glyn – a kindred spirit and one of the legendary giants of Snowdonia. This friendly sleeping wooden giant became the focal point of the play area, where visitors can test their nerve and agility as they traverse balance bridges, tackle steppingstones, climb walls and obstacles, and navigate tunnels surrounding Glyn. There is also a stainless-steel tube slide snaking through the play area to really heighten the play experience.

GreenWood Family Park is packed with action and adventure activities and has been voted the best family day out in North Wales for 7 years running. The addition of The Giant Quest has allowed for more activities geared towards visitors from as young as 3 for outdoor adventure – yet can be enjoyed by older children too. GreenWood have benefited from the utilisation of some fantastic space to bring forward a truly unique play experience – and have received excellent reviews and pictures on TripAdvisor.
