Greenspan was brilliant from day one, and to see how the project came to life has really surpassed my expectations. The whole course blends in so well with the surrounding environments of Fairhaven lake and will complement the restoration project really well.

I would absolutely recommend working with Greenspan to any other local authority or company. We’ve had a really good relationship from the outset and they understood our objectives, needs and processes really well. Dave, the project manager, has been brilliant throughout, fully professional with excellent communication. He delivered the project on time and on budget, so a big thanks to Dave and also to the rest of the Greenspan team. See the Fairhaven Lakes Mini Golf case study and video here.

Woodland Adventure Golf

Thank you very much for delivering such a great adventure golf course in what has been a very challenging year. The process from design to finish was fantastic and the attention to detail from Julian and the team on-site was great.
I hope we can work together on some more projects going forward.

The metal slides, swings, wooden playhouses and ramps supplied and installed by Greenspan at Avon Heath Country Park are still looking great. The playground is very popular with families – even more so this year with children off school for longer. Please pass on a big thank you to the Greenspan team.

Greenspan Projects submitted a competitive tender for the development of the accessible play area at Royal Victoria Country Park based on sketch proposals compiled by the Hampshire county Council, Property Services, Landscape group. They went on to complete the detail design and implementation of the play area working closely with the project client team throughout. They were flexible in their approach and proactive in ensuring that the best facility could be provided for the available funding. The project has exceeded expectations in terms of accessibility for children with a range of abilities and has proved to be a great success with the public.

Following a hugely successful artificial grass installation, Greenspan have been our chosen contractor for further projects developing our outdoor areas. We love the personal service which we receive and the help and advice which has turned our ideas and inspirations into finished projects. Working within a school environment does introduce some unique challenges but with great communication, flexibility and a good understanding of the nature of schools, these are quickly overcome. The contractors that we have had on site have been extremely hardworking, polite and a real pleasure to deal with and we have been delighted with the final product.

We are very happy with the work completed by Greenspan on the heating and lighting for the Giraffe House at Marwell Zoo. Both Greenspan and their subcontractors were very flexible when working within animal areas where moving the animals in and out cannot have exact timing. The heating and lighting have been commissioned and have made a vast improvement to both animal welfare and the guest experience. They worked in a safe manner and were good at communicating progress with Marwell. We would recommend them for similar works and will continue to procure their services in other areas of the park.

Greenspan have demonstrated a real ability to coordinate both the pre-visualisation and construction of complex projects to a defined budget… allowing us to get a clear understanding of what the eventual product would look like and security that the concepts could be afforded at an early stage. Their project management and on-site teams are especially diligent and worked hard to satisfy our requirements.

Project Manager | Merlin Entertainments

Thank you for the tremendous amount of work that you and your team achieved over the summer. Your huge contribution has made a significant difference to our Academy, and has had a very positive impact on the self esteem and aspirations of the school community. Thank you for all your time and effort.

Portway Junior School has been delighted with the work that has been done by Greenspan. The whole process from design to final handover has been done quickly, efficiently and in a very professional way. We have worked with other, better known, companies on play areas and they have not been anyway as good as Greenspan. The children love the new area and we are already talking about our next project and we will definitely be using Greenspan.

An expanding company with a wealth of knowledge, a keen interest in customer care, competitive pricing and a passion for their industry. Second to none.

Greenspan have undertaken works at Roman Way Primary School and Knights Enham Junior School. They were always professional from the initial meeting through to the completion of works. They listened to our ideas and came up with suggestions and ideas that enhanced the schemes. The work is of a high standard and most importantly of all the children thoroughly enjoy using the equipment.

Dear Rod, Now that the garden at Whiteley is complete I would like to take a moment to share with you all at Greenspan exactly what the experience has meant to me and my team at Kiddi Caru Whiteley. The prospect of receiving a budget to work on the nursery garden began with such excitement however this quickly turned to frustration as I met with company after company who failed to see what I was trying to create. That was until you came to see me. Wishing to create a truly bespoke outdoor environment that would cater for all children three months to five years I wanted something very different to what I was seeing in the playground equipment catalogues I was being shown. From our first meeting when I began talking of zoning off areas, creating hidden woodland environments, opportunity for mark making, transporting, cause and effect, gradient and levels of play I felt listened to for the first time. Rather than being put off by the challenge you appeared inspired and as excited by it as I was. During the design phase of the project you worked with me to create something which on paper looked very special, especially as the A1 2D and later 3D drawings arrived. These enabled me to create a wonderful display which got the parents, children and staff really involved. As the project team arrived on site and the work began I was equally impressed by everyone involved in the project. I was consulted on every area of the work to ensure what I got was exactly what I had in mind with the team working with me to create the intricate details that make the garden so special. The team were always happy to stop and talk to inquisitive children, explaining what they were doing; I was even asked if they could be named our Employee of the Month! The work and the materials used have been of an extremely high quality, even when sourcing them involved foreign travel! I would have no hesitation encouraging anyone looking to create something special to use Greenspan. In fact having done just that within my own organisation I have since had the opportunity to work with you on a number of other nursery gardens and have seen first hand your commitment and enthusiasm to a multisite project. Thank you Rod to you and your team; we are thrilled with the space you have helped to create and have enjoyed every element of the experience – I only wish I had another project to work with you on!

Nursery Manager | Kiddi Caru Day Nurseries

Rod, I just wanted to let you know how delighted the children and parents are with the new garden here in Cardiff – we have had a lot of very positive comments from parents and the children love the water pump and sand pit especially! I also wanted to thank Dave, Mike and Perry for their hard work last week – they were fantastic! We have over the years had a lot of different contractors working with the nursery but we have never had a group as accommodating as yours. Nothing was too much trouble for them considering the amount they had to do in a short time, they were still happy for the children to see the digger they were using and talk to the children about what they were doing in the garden. They were courteous and professional at all times and became part of the team for the time they were with us. I just wanted to give some positive feedback to you about them and please pass on our thanks to them as well.

Nursery Manager | Busy Bees

I just want to let you know that we have been very pleased with the team you have sent to Chessington over the past few weeks, they’ve fitted in well with our own team here. They have been very professional, worked hard, carried out all they’ve been asked to do and produced great results during this busy time for us. Please pass on my thanks to Phil, Anthony, Bradley, Gregg, William, Ben and Jez for their hard work, help and support.

Landscape Manager | Chessington World of Adventures Resort

I am writing to express our thanks for the work that has been put into the planning and installation of the new Beaulieu Village Playground. The project commenced some two years ago and since that time we have had many different problems which have meant that we have been unable to proceed. At all times Greenspan were helpful and patient when events overtook us. The site changed at least four times and new plans had to be drawn up. Our eventual plan is well devised and attractive and has become a great focal point for the village. The quality of the equipment is excellent and completely suitable for the rural area in which it has been sited. The installation staff were always able to accommodate the small changes that needed to be made, undertaking their work with cheerfulness and humour. The project has been a long drawn out one but we are delighted with the work that Greenspan have done. Beaulieu Parish Council would be happy to recommend their work to others. Many thanks to all your team for their hard work.

Parish Clerk | Beaulieu Parish Council

Thank you all at Greenspan for the installation of our play equipment at Longdown Activity Farm. We were extremely impressed with the professional way the project was handled from start to finish – The drawings provided gave us a clear indication of how the final product would look. The installation team were very courteous and experienced. The safety of our visitors was always paramount during the installation. The play equipment installed was of a very high standard and is currently giving our visitors hours of entertainment. Without any hesitation, we will be requesting Greenspan to design and install any future developments at Longdown Activity Farm.

Owner | Longdown Activity Farm

When we first asked Greenspan to look to develop our new outdoor play area, they came out to listen to our ideas and went away and drew up 3D drawings incorporating our thoughts along with original ideas of their own. We chose to use Greenspan because they seemed like a firm we could work with, nothing was too much trouble. The result is we have a fantastic play area called Topsy Turvey Towers which is unique to us and the build quality is second to none.

Owner | Mead Open farm (also chairman of National farm attractions networks)

Greenspan have undertaken a number of projects in the Park including a themed play area, bespoke elevated timber boardwalk with treetop classroom, Penguin Cove refurbishment, meerkat enclosure and are currently close to completing our new walk through aviary. Whilst each project has provided its unique challenges and complications we have been very impressed with Greenspan’s ability to adapt, think outside the box and work to our (tight) deadlines and often specialist requirements. Greenspan work in well with our own site management procedures, and their staff are co-operative and willing to work alongside our own staff when required to do so.

Latest Project

Zip World, Llechwedd, Snowdonia

Deep below in the caverns of Snowdonia’s epic historical mines, you’ll find a surprise awaiting the latest adventure seeker…

Enter the world’s first 18-hole adventure golf course in a cave… 500ft below the earth’s surface! Inspired by hundreds of years of slate mining history, this attraction is equally as unique in the sense that it can only be reached by Europe’s steepest cable railway – and is pioneered by industry disruptors, Zip World, and Greenspan Projects Ltd.

Set over four levels, the course features 18 unique holes in total, originating from creative concepts dreamt up by Greenspan’s design team. The course takes visitors on a journey through the cave’s history as they battle each other through a series of interactive challenges. Coupled with immersive special FX, bright and immersive atmospheric lighting displays, rope nets and a slide to eventually exit the attraction, the course is one of a kind and an extremely unique project for Greenspan.

The Zip World caverns have been inaccessible for almost 200 years, so, naturally, Zip World saw an opportunity to create a unique attraction within the depths of these historical slate mines to draw upon the fascinating heritage and history of the site.

Building the dream

Zip World’s co-founder and CEO, Sean Taylor, explained why the new installation is a perfect fit.

“Blaenau Ffestiniog is steeped in history, with the culture of slate mining. It’s literally the town that roofed the world. It’s such an iconic setting, so when we do things, they must be good enough for this site; they must have a wow factor and they must be world-class.

“Also, it’s one of the wettest places in the UK. So, the new adventure golf course provides something that is always open, no matter the time of year. It’s always dry and it’s always the same temperature. People can now come and play 18 holes of adventure golf underground, all year round, and stay dry.”

It was, however, a new direction for Zip World:

“We are an adventure tourism business, combining things like swings, parachute simulators, coasters. Golf is not what we were used to doing. But we always had this hunch that the public would love doing an adventure golf experience underground.”

Greenspan’s approach

As with all of Greenspan’s projects, the idea of bringing something special to the forefront was extremely exciting – and this space in particular made for some pretty imaginative concepts.

Rod Morton, Greenspan’s Managing Director, said: “From the outset, we knew that Zip World were market leaders globally for innovative and one-of-a-kind projects. So, the bar was set high. To start with, we utilised our standard approach with the creative team working up the concept, getting approval for that, agreeing on a budget, then achieving project sign-off and moving into the construction phase.

“The key from here was creating a fully detailed 3D model of the project. We had the cavern surveyed and from this, we could create our 3D model that showed exactly how the attraction would look. This allowed the Zip World team to fully immerse themselves in the design and make any changes required before construction began.”

And that they did: “The fact that the course tells a story is really important, firstly for the community here,” says Taylor. “Generations of people from this area have worked underground, and people have lost their lives here too. It’s also important for me as a local lad; I was born and bred seven miles away from Blaenau Ffestiniog. There’s a huge community buy-in for it.

“Also, there’s already an existing Deep Mine tour, which goes into the history of the quarry. We’ve kept that, it was important that that wasn’t changing. In fact, we’ve enhanced that experience with this new addition.”

Choosing the perfect partners

For such a complex project, Zip World needed to choose the right partners. Speaking about how Greenspan Projects was selected to work on the underground adventure golf course, Taylor says:

“We have known Greenspan for a while, and we knew they would be the right partner for us. Projects like this are not straightforward, so you need to have that flexibility; you need to be able to think outside the box to be able to change things along the way. Greenspan can do all that. They are also nice guys to work with. Our guys got on very well with them, and they worked well as part of the team.”

Launching a world’s first adventure

Since opening this attraction, Zip World welcomed over 600 visitors during its’ first weekend alone. Now a highly sought after adventure and a firm favourite addition to an already amazing portfolio, the sky is the limit with this adventure golf course… or shall we say… the cavern ceiling?
