About the Project

Mill Meadows, Henley-on-Thames Adventure Golf

Greenspan were selected by Henley Town Council to create a new visitor attraction for Henley-on-Thames, with bespoke theming to highlight important elements of the town that residents and visitors further afield alike can enjoy.

This 18-hole adventure golf course is located at Mill Meadows, which is adjacent to the River Thames upstream of Henley Bridge. It was designed to take visitors on a journey through Henley-on-Thames’s past and present, featuring landmarks such as Friar Park, home of The Beatles’ member George Harrison, which includes play opportunities over his iconic Fender Stratocaster. There are also themed props including sculptures of the Town Hall, Temple Island, Henley Bridge and a miniature River Thames – equipped with a mini marsh lock, kiosk and CCTV for authenticity. There is also, of course, a nod to Henley’s prestigious rowing regatta within the theming, where visitors can have a photo opportunity with Matthew Pinsent and Steve Redgrave and see one of their actual rowing boats.

As there is so much to learn along the way throughout the course, the addition of signs by each hole have been added to compliment the journey, featuring QR codes, which when scanned reveal information about the respective landmark.

As a thriving and highly regarded town in the UK, Henley-on-Thames boasts a beautiful location and plenty for visitors to enjoy. It was due to the suggestion of some of the local residents that the idea of an adventure golf course came to fruition, which Henley Town Council took on board and turned into a reality.

Since the official launch of the adventure golf course in April 2022, the course has attracted visitors to Henley from far and wide – as well as catering for local residents, who enjoy a discounted rate. Funds raised from the project will also support the council’s other services.

Client Testimonials:

“We knew that the course would be financially viable, inventive, and fun, but it was also important that the project was executed well and in a way that complemented our town and addressed feedback about planting and biodiversity. Bringing a new visitor attraction to Henley is quite a responsibility. I am delighted with the results. This project has been a true labour of love and I hope that visitors and residents enjoy it!”

-Sheridan Jacklin-Edward, Town Clerk

“I am thrilled with our new Adventure Golf Course. We have built something very special here. There’s a discounted rate for local residents, and plenty of interest to keep visitors coming back to play for many years to come. We’re showing off the best bits of our town, from our built heritage to our cultural and sporting history – in a light-hearted and engaging way. The course is Henley in miniature and the project is emblematic of our strengths as a council and a town. Local people know that we will take their suggestions, listen to their feedback, and deliver. Here we work at pace, with a sense of purpose and fun. The course demonstrates that in spades.”

-Councillor Stefan Gawrysiak, Chair of the Putting Green Working Group
