About the Project

From IHG Hotels & Resorts, The Holiday Inn Corby – Kettering is a highly rated hotel, which has recently seen some unique renovations…

Holiday Inn Corby/Kettering is a full-service 110-bedroom IHG hotel with various dining options. It features five luxury spa treatment rooms, a fully equipped gym and an indoor swimming pool, as well as a sauna, a steam room, a jacuzzi and six spacious meeting rooms. There is also free car parking and high-speed Wi-Fi. With the addition of the new outdoor facilities, the operator will have the ability to offer leisure and corporate team-building packages.

After a 2.4 million pound transformation in 2016/2017 including a new open lobby and dining area, revamped executive bedrooms, some standard bedrooms, 5 bedroom suites, 6 function rooms and the renovation of the hotel’s public areas, the hotel decided to set sights on an even bigger draw for visitors.

Greenspan were approached by the hotel group to scope potential for an outdoor adventure attraction within the adjoining woodland area. Known as Iron Pit Woods, the space was perfect for an impactful activity. It’s a stunning secluded woodland with towering trees and wildflowers… so it made sense for the adventures to take place not only on the ground… but up in the tree tops, too!

Throughout the design stage, it was clear the client wanted to retain the natural aesthetic when shaping the look and feel of the attraction. Natural Robinia wood was chosen for the high ropes structure, which added a stunning light contrast to the deep green woods in the background. Below, the adventure golf took on a woodland theme, which includes hand carved woodland creatures and toadstools, (a different animal for each hole) and winding play through props, wooden huts and bridges over trickling streams.

Above the golf course, there are multiple high ropes challenges to look up to on the aerial assault course trail… allowing for visitors of all ages to enjoy either attraction depending on their preference… or both! Each challenge varies in difficulty and allows for the user to enjoy a little adrenaline rush as they work their way around the obstacles, which include swinging ropes, wobbly steps, moving bridges and the challenging log walk! Of course, this adventure isn’t complete without swinging through the woods on a zip wire… which is the grand finale!

The new adventure golf course, a first for Corby, is now open to the public and will be available for functions, such as corporate events and birthday parties. The development is part of the hotel’s aforementioned commitment to enhance the nature surrounding it, as well as providing something a little different with the aerial assault course and zip wire.

Thanks to the new adventure facility as a whole, the hotel will be able to offer an improved experience to guests. It will also act as a great addition to the town.

“We felt that there was a gap for this in the local area and we could benefit both the business and the wider community,” says Jamie Jackson, Manager at The Holiday Inn Corby/Kettering. “Greenspan came across as by far the sharpest during the research and tender process. We would love to continue and add more development in time, it will depend on the success of this. Greenspan is key in that.”

Rod Morton, CEO of Greenspan Projects, adds:

“Hotels and resorts are really upping their game when it comes to enhancing their venues, with the visitor’s experience at the forefront. We were delighted to be approached by IHG Hotels and Resorts for Holiday Inn Corby/Kettering to help them develop their dream to do just this. Their vision is to utilise their stunning natural surroundings to bring forward an adventure attraction that will ultimately bring even more joy to visitors – and although their current offering is already extensive, this will be the jewel in the crown.”

“Aerial adventures are a great deal of fun to work on – and engaging with Holiday Inn Corby/Kettering has been a genuine pleasure,” says John Whitehead, sales consultant for Greenspan Projects. “They have put their clientele at the forefront from the get-go and they are onto something truly unique and exciting here. I, for one, am looking forward to the end result. Prepare for a new adventure… with a twist!”
