Greenspan collaborates on new Homestead Adventure Golf & High Ropes Park

Unique attraction transports visitors on a journey through the history of Quinte West in Ontario, Canada.

Greenspan Projects Ltd. has worked with Homestead Marketplace on a new 18-hole adventure/mini golf course surrounded by 16 high rope challenges, featuring scenic views, challenging obstacles, and hours of endless fun for all the family.

Most of us have experienced outdoor adventure golf in our lifetime – yet have you ever combined this with a thrilling high ropes experience too?

Homestead Marketplace – a new leisure destination coming to Quinte West in 2023 – will be doing just this, by bringing adventure attractions to life as part of an exciting new development for business, shopping and leisure.

With tradition at the very heart of everything that this third-generation family-run business does, the Homestead Marketplace group has officially rebranded and broken ground on this latest venture in the Spring of 2022. Now set to become the home of multiple community-focused companies, new Canadian restaurant brands, and a franchise in the Canadian automotive industry, this dedicated adventure attraction will become the ultimate pièce de resistance.

Harnessing history and heritage

The attraction will feature an iconic water tower at its centre, which visitors will marvel at from miles around. The 18-hole golf course will circle this tower, which features a rotating water wheel leading to bridges running over streams, and interactive components– plus a pond with remote control boats for an extra immersive experience.

Each element of the course has been designed with Quinte West’s history at the very heart of the concept. This includes Trenton’s industrious past with themed play surrounding the Trent-Severn Waterway, its lumber-based economy – and even Canada’s military roots to allow visitors to embrace the history and heritage of the site. Visitors will also receive a fun, interactive workbook filled with interesting facts, games, and riddles to complete throughout the course.

New perspectives

For those who want to access all of the action and adventure with an aerial view, visitors will have the chance to enjoy an unforgettable high ropes experience too. Surrounding the golf course and passing through the top of the water tower, this adventurous family-friendly attraction features 16 different suspended rope challenges.

Visitors can test their balance and coordination; all while being connected to a safety harness as they make their way through this scenic course. On the last rope challenge, guests will have the option to take a leap of faith to finish the course.

Building the dream

For Mike and Nickey Eden, owners of Homestead Marketplace, the dream is rapidly becoming a reality to bring this 18-acre community-focused destination to life – breaking the paradigms of traditional shopping.

And the clue is in the word; “destination”. Mike and Nickey envisage the vast space at Homestead Marketplace to provide a community-focused destination experience that will go above and beyond typical shopping experiences – as the addition of the adventure park will tell you.

This also goes above and beyond perhaps a more typical clientele, as Homestead looks to branch out to be as inclusive as possible when it comes to visitors; particularly within the realms of fundraising and giving back to the community.

Mike Eden, the owner of Homestead Adventure Park, said:

“Homestead Adventure Park will be much more than just a place to go with family and friends. Homestead Adventure Park will be a destination for school trips and team-building activities, birthday parties, and most importantly community fundraising events. It’s designed to be competitive fun for all ages and will truly be an exciting and immersive experience – nothing like anything you’ve seen before in our area.”

“The intention of the site is to not just be brick and mortar, but to provide entertainment, a family atmosphere, to host family events and to be able to have a mechanism to host charitable events,” said Eden. “Just to be a hub for the community for food, entertainment, shopping – a destination for us all.”

Creating the concept

Greenspan works collaboratively and closely with clients to bring the concept to life, ensuring projects are designed to cater for every single detail.

Hannah Day, creative design lead at Greenspan Projects Ltd, said: “Working with Mike and the team has been a joy. Their passion and knowledge of their hometown has allowed me to create a concept which is authentic and rooted in the local history and made the process so interesting and enjoyable.

“I love to bring a sense of place and heritage to every concept design, and in the research process for Homestead, I discovered so much local history, including the cinematic legacy of Hollywood North and the rich history of aviation, the armed forces, and munitions industries.

“I had the idea of bringing an iconic, eye-catching water tower to life with a rotating water wheel as the centrepiece of the course, which anchors the story of Trenton told throughout the journey around the mini-putt course.

“Thoughtfully themed props and features help to bring history to life for all visitors, and hopefully can teach everyone something new about the town whether old or young or from near or far.

“The adventure high ropes course and remote-control boating pond enhance and expand the play and excitement offering for all visitors, and tie in seamlessly to the theming of the mini-putt and the waterways and lumber industries of this historic town.”

Watching the magic unfold

It’s not just an exciting time for visitors watching the build take shape with curiosity. For the employees at Homestead Marketplace, it’s a dream waiting to come true;

Audrey Lessard, chief financial officer of Homestead Marketplace, said:

“This is such an exciting time for Homestead Marketplace. There are so many elements of this attraction that will delight visitors and we want this to remain a place that people can really call home. At the heart of everything is the community here – and this has, and always will, remain the focal point for Homestead… and it’s something that I’m incredibly proud to be a part of.”

Hendra Holiday Park

Hendra Holiday Park is an award-winning holiday park located close to Cornwall’s north coast, near Newquay.

Hendra are Visit England winners, scooping a Bronze Award in the Camping, Glamping, and Holiday Park of the Year category 2023. They also went through to the Visit England finals after winning Gold at the South West Tourism’s Holiday Park of the Year. Hendra is a five-star destination, home to bespoke Hendra holiday homes as well as touringcamping, and caravan pitches to suit everyone’s holiday needs.

The word Hendra is Cornish for ‘Home Farm’ which is perfect for this family-run site, set up in 1972. They are home to a huge range of family-friendly activities and amenities, ranging from Oasis Fun Pools – one of the largest indoor fun pools in the South West, to live entertainment and kids’ activities.

Hendra Holiday Park asked Greenspan to design and build a 9-hole Palm Beach themed Adventure Golf Course for the opening of their 2024 season. Our designers took inspiration from the surrounding coastal towns when coming up with the initial concept design, with the intention of bringing Newquay’s fun, vibrant and family-friendly atmosphere straight back into this site. The team were able to achieve this by incorporating sea themed creatures, treasure chests, a revolving flashing lighthouse, life-sized surfboards and a gigantic deckchair – perfect for your family photos!

It was important for us to work closely with the client, be fully transparent and take them on the Greenspan journey. Ensuring that the final installation, not only reflected the initial concept design, that the client saw and loved, but exceeded their expectations was crucial. We have designed this course so that it can be played during the day and into the evening, by people of all ages and abilities to enjoy and create memorable moments that will last a lifetime. – Chris Marais, Project Manager.

Keeping it local… Our team pride themselves on supporting local companies and suppliers when completing our projects, which can be seen in the landscaping of this mini-golf course. All of the planting areas and rock edgings are constructed by locally sourced products which not only supports local businesses in the area, but also reflects and enhances the local environment.
