Curating concept to reality – Project Manager Andy Burroughs

An insight into one of our highly proficient Project Managers

We introduce one of our construction management team’s expert Project Managers – Andy Burroughs!

He has been a part of the Greenspan Project Management team for over 3 years now and works closely with our in-house design team to help bring their concepts from screen/paper to actual tangible completed attractions. The other main aspect of his role is overseeing the construction phase of the project. He is usually on-site liaising with the construction team ensuring that everything comes together successfully. He has predominantly worked on Adventure Playpark projects whilst at Greenspan and takes great satisfaction in providing imaginative play spaces for children and young people to enjoy.

Every project Andy has worked upon, his clients always sing his praises, which include how attentive he is to their requirements and how he goes the extra mile for them throughout the project’s lifespan.

Andy has many years of experience in refurbishing commercial premises, much of his past work involves comprehensive projects for retail spaces and restaurants. He is now responsible for managing large prestigious Greenspan projects from point of order through to handover.

We asked Andy what his favourite Greenspan project to work on was, and he immediately and enthusiastically answered: “Bright Horizons – West Hill Nursery in Didcot“.

Nursery Project Greenspan Projects               West Hill Day Nursery

Why was West Hill Nursery your favourite project?

“It was a baptism of fire, as I was asked to manage a project with an existing client and try to create a working relationship with this client. At the time this made me learn about Greenspan and their drive to complete projects above expectations. This relationship with the client has developed and they wish to work on further projects with in the future.”

What is your background in project management and construction?

“I was working for a company that carried out refurbishments of Burger Kings nationwide and also small restaurants and bars – previous to that and where I learnt about Project management – this was at a company that carried out refurbishments of French Connection and Nicole Farhi clothing stores nationwide, also I have worked in several large London department store refurbing small concessions.”

What do you enjoy the most out of the Project Manager work that you do?

“The end product and handing over to the client exactly what they wanted and realising their dream. I also take great satisfaction from the journey through the project with the client.”

Hendra Holiday Park

Hendra Holiday Park is an award-winning holiday park located close to Cornwall’s north coast, near Newquay.

Hendra are Visit England winners, scooping a Bronze Award in the Camping, Glamping, and Holiday Park of the Year category 2023. They also went through to the Visit England finals after winning Gold at the South West Tourism’s Holiday Park of the Year. Hendra is a five-star destination, home to bespoke Hendra holiday homes as well as touringcamping, and caravan pitches to suit everyone’s holiday needs.

The word Hendra is Cornish for ‘Home Farm’ which is perfect for this family-run site, set up in 1972. They are home to a huge range of family-friendly activities and amenities, ranging from Oasis Fun Pools – one of the largest indoor fun pools in the South West, to live entertainment and kids’ activities.

Hendra Holiday Park asked Greenspan to design and build a 9-hole Palm Beach themed Adventure Golf Course for the opening of their 2024 season. Our designers took inspiration from the surrounding coastal towns when coming up with the initial concept design, with the intention of bringing Newquay’s fun, vibrant and family-friendly atmosphere straight back into this site. The team were able to achieve this by incorporating sea themed creatures, treasure chests, a revolving flashing lighthouse, life-sized surfboards and a gigantic deckchair – perfect for your family photos!

It was important for us to work closely with the client, be fully transparent and take them on the Greenspan journey. Ensuring that the final installation, not only reflected the initial concept design, that the client saw and loved, but exceeded their expectations was crucial. We have designed this course so that it can be played during the day and into the evening, by people of all ages and abilities to enjoy and create memorable moments that will last a lifetime. – Chris Marais, Project Manager.

Keeping it local… Our team pride themselves on supporting local companies and suppliers when completing our projects, which can be seen in the landscaping of this mini-golf course. All of the planting areas and rock edgings are constructed by locally sourced products which not only supports local businesses in the area, but also reflects and enhances the local environment.
