5 ways to increase dwell time and revenue…

5 ways to increase dwell time and revenue…

How can we attract new customers?

How can we encourage repeat custom?

How can we increase visitor spend? familiar questions?

Whether you operate a country park, farm park, leisure/theme park, museum, heritage site, wildlife attraction, or otherwise, questions around sustainability and revenue will no doubt arise.

Regardless of the size of space and budget available, a bespoke design means that the opportunities really are endless, allowing you to make the most of the resources available to you. Inspiration is often a great starting point so we’ve put together 5 x ideas to help you think about how you can increase dwell time and revenue.

1. Adventure Play   – See more

Got a vast space that would benefit from ginormous treetop soaring play towers?…or a smaller space that would benefit from a themed play trail?

Have Space through the trees to install an exciting high ropes course that will cover its cost and generate excellent revenue in no time?

Adventure play can be designed and built to fit into literally any space making it the perfect addition to your visitor attraction.

2. Adventure Golf   – See more

Chinafleet Woodland Adventure Golf

Whether outdoor or indoor, adventure golf is a great addition to any visitor attraction. A themed course will attract all ages. Whether you offer it as a pay-and-play attraction or include it within the overall ticket price, it’s a fantastic way to keep your visitors engaged.

With bespoke obstacles around every corner, the element of surprise creates that all-important excitement that makes for a truly memorable visitor experience, making them want to come back time and time again. Themed adventure golf makes for some brilliant visitor photo opportunities too!

3. Indoor Play   – See More

Got a barn or other out-building that you’re looking to utilise? Got some existing indoor space that’s just sat empty?…

Make the most of your indoor space with a themed indoor play attraction. Great whatever the weather, making it a go-to place for families all-year-round. Incorporate it with/next to a café and watch the dwell time shoot up – generating extra revenue from your food and beverage sales!

Theme the indoor play to the surroundings…share a bit of history…tell a story through the design…it suddenly becomes more than play, it becomes educational!  View Flavour Forest Case Study

4. Assault Course

Want something a bit different? Encourage people to get active…promote teamwork by adding an assault course. It’s a great use of outdoor space complementing the natural surroundings, tailored to the existing landscape.

Great for families and community groups…corporate teambuilding…add a dog agility course and even the family pet can enjoy the experience!

5. Sand & Water Play

Kids love sensory play and a sand and water play area can provide endless hours of fun. Incorporate it with a picnic area, situate it near a café, position it next to an ice cream kiosk… a brilliant way to entertain the family and increase dwell time.

Encapsulate it with a theme…perhaps a dinosaur fossil dig…construction site…and the whole roleplay experience comes to the fore. It’s also a great opportunity to add in some educational resources to enhance the play value.

Hendra Holiday Park

Hendra Holiday Park is an award-winning holiday park located close to Cornwall’s north coast, near Newquay.

Hendra are Visit England winners, scooping a Bronze Award in the Camping, Glamping, and Holiday Park of the Year category 2023. They also went through to the Visit England finals after winning Gold at the South West Tourism’s Holiday Park of the Year. Hendra is a five-star destination, home to bespoke Hendra holiday homes as well as touringcamping, and caravan pitches to suit everyone’s holiday needs.

The word Hendra is Cornish for ‘Home Farm’ which is perfect for this family-run site, set up in 1972. They are home to a huge range of family-friendly activities and amenities, ranging from Oasis Fun Pools – one of the largest indoor fun pools in the South West, to live entertainment and kids’ activities.

Hendra Holiday Park asked Greenspan to design and build a 9-hole Palm Beach themed Adventure Golf Course for the opening of their 2024 season. Our designers took inspiration from the surrounding coastal towns when coming up with the initial concept design, with the intention of bringing Newquay’s fun, vibrant and family-friendly atmosphere straight back into this site. The team were able to achieve this by incorporating sea themed creatures, treasure chests, a revolving flashing lighthouse, life-sized surfboards and a gigantic deckchair – perfect for your family photos!

It was important for us to work closely with the client, be fully transparent and take them on the Greenspan journey. Ensuring that the final installation, not only reflected the initial concept design, that the client saw and loved, but exceeded their expectations was crucial. We have designed this course so that it can be played during the day and into the evening, by people of all ages and abilities to enjoy and create memorable moments that will last a lifetime. – Chris Marais, Project Manager.

Keeping it local… Our team pride themselves on supporting local companies and suppliers when completing our projects, which can be seen in the landscaping of this mini-golf course. All of the planting areas and rock edgings are constructed by locally sourced products which not only supports local businesses in the area, but also reflects and enhances the local environment.
