Themed Environment Meets Play Innovation in a Landmark Adventure Trail Project
In 2025, a leading European theme park partnered with Greenspan to deliver a landmark new attraction; an immersive, narrative-driven adventure trail that redefines how guests engage with outdoor environments.
This project marks the launch of what may become a new category in themed entertainment: the Interactive Adventure Trail; a multi-sensory, story-led journey that blends play, challenge, and discovery across a fully integrated physical environment.
Client Vision
The client aimed to introduce an attraction that could:
-
Offer repeatable, cross-generational appeal
-
Extend dwell time and support wider park flow
-
Deliver immersive storytelling in a durable, all-weather outdoor setting
The result had to be more than a playground or static walk-through, it needed to function as a standalone experience with theatrical detail, physical challenge, and emotional engagement.
Design Summary
Camino Del Sol unfolds across a sequence of themed environments inspired by Day of the Dead, one of the most prominent Latin-American festivals as well as temples and jungle landscapes. Visitors are asked to traverse obstacles surrounded by water and encounter immersive light shows, connected by themed play sections and rope bridges that offer a multitude of routes depending on how adventurous you are feeling.
Every decision in design was made with the consideration of climate durability, accessibility for all and around delivering the most immersive attraction possible that integrated well with existing infrastructure.
Delivery & Collaboration
One clear challenge with this project is the requirement to co-ordinate construction around an existing rollercoaster that intersects the attraction. This required highly detailed access management and safety planning to achieve, which went hand in hand with close alignment between client and design team also.
A Strategic Step Toward What’s Next
The Interactive Adventure Trail model presents a flexible, scalable opportunity for parks and destinations looking to offer immersive, story-led experiences without reliance on high-capex rides or indoor spaces.
This approach is particularly suited to operators seeking:
-
Greater guest dwell time through experiential zones
-
Visually impactful, photo-friendly environments
-
Attractions that balance activity, creativity, and discovery
Though not the first interactive adventure trail for Greenspan, this is a flagship project for the niche and we expect to do many more of these in the coming years as they present a flexible, scalable opportunity for any leisure operator to offer an immersive, story-led experience without relying on high capital expenditure rides or indoor real estate. The operator has immediately seen higher dwell times for this section of the park and excellent usage of all ages and abilities.
