The major project for Melco Resorts and Entertainment includes adventure golf, high ropes and a trampoline zone
Greenspan Projects Ltd., a creative design and build specialist, has revealed the details of a major new project for Melco Resorts and Entertainment. The firm has developed the new adventure park at City of Dreams Mediterranean in Limassol, Cyprus.
City of Dreams Mediterranean is Melco Resorts and Entertainment’s first integrated resort in Europe and is one of the biggest in the Mediterranean region. The resort features a fourteen-storey luxury hotel with 500 guest rooms and suites. It also has over 8,000 square meters of MICE space, an outdoor amphitheatre, a selection of fine dining outlets and luxury shopping. The new high-octane adventure park offers exciting activities for the entire family.
Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited (Melco) creates and runs integrated resorts in Asia and Europe. In 2006, the firm raised US$1.14bn when it was listed on NASDAQ. This was reportedly the fourth-largest IPO in the US that year.
In 2023 it has five resorts in Macau, the Philippines, and Cyprus – all with ambitious sustainability objectives. By 2030, chairman & CEO Lawrence Ho aims that the properties will all be carbon neutral and zero waste.
Melco has an enviable reputation and was awarded 97 stars for the third consecutive year by Forbes Travel Guide (2021-2023) and seven Michelin stars in Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau (2023).
Designed for families
The Adventure Park at City of Dreams Mediterranean spans 5,000 square meters and offers activities for the entire family set in a beautiful landscape with rockwork, colourful planting and turquoise water features.
The park boasts a number of attractions, which have all been designed and built to meet rigorous quality and safety standards.
They include:
18-Hole Adventure Golf Course
The 18-Hole Adventure Golf Course is one of the most beautiful in Europe. It is designed to provide the ultimate golf experience, with a series of challenges accompanied by authentic aspects of a full-scale golf course. The course is surrounded by trees and bushes, water hazards, and sand bunkers, and offers excellent views of the high ropes adventure overhead.
Zipline Coaster
The Zipline Coaster offers one of the most adrenaline-filled activities at the park. Guests ‘fly’ at up to 80km per hour, while enjoying beautiful views across City of Dreams Mediterranean from the 8m ride height.
Climbing Wall
The climbing wall offers experiences for climbers of all abilities. The tracks are colour coded, with blue being designed for beginners and children, green for novice climbers, and yellow for those with advanced skills.
An automatic belay system ensures guest safety and slowly lowers climbers to the ground when they reach the top or lose their grip on the wall, and aerial adventures specialists have provided extensive training.
High Ropes Obstacle Courses
Greenspan designed the High Ropes Obstacle Course as a family experience, with three courses for varying levels of ability.
The Family Course features a mini zipline and the ‘Leap of Faith’, while the Adventurer Course offers 13 intermediate-level obstacles, 5m high. The Extreme Course is 8m up, with 13 advanced obstacles.
All three courses are located above the golf course and offer fantastic views across the park.
Trampoline Zone
This zone features a number of elements. The main court offers 18 interconnected trampolines, which continue up the walls, the free-running court is a space for kids to practice parkour skills, and the giant airbag offers a different experience, described by Greenspan as “Bouncier, rounder and definitely entertaining”.
Sinking Ship Kid’s Playground
The playground is designed for the park’s youngest visitors, with soft sand, swings, slides, monkey bars, the teeter-totter, and much more for young children to enjoy.
This area is designed for beauty and comfort. Light Robina wood has been used throughout, which is both attractive and will not get hot (unlike metal). Sunshades provide plenty of space to stay cool.
Giant Air Trampoline
This enormous trampoline will keep the kids entertained: “the perfect way to work off the boundless energy” says Greenspan. The trampoline has a safety net around the perimeter.
Collaborative working
The project has been developed through a close collaboration between Greenspan and Melco.
Robert DiFulvio, senior design manager for Melco Resorts and Entertainment, says: “Back in 2019 when we first started talking about having an adventure park, Greenspan were brought on board as we were very happy with the work they had done previously.
“Greenspan came up with the design with some direction from us – where some of the activities became more and more “adventurous” in themselves as the plans progressed. We added more levels to the high ropes courses, for example, and introduced the trampoline park.
“There were three different theming concepts originally and it was decided the park would be inspired by Kolossi Castle – a former Crusader stronghold on the south-west edge of Kolossi village 14 kilometres west of the city of Limassol, Cyprus. So, the basis of the design is ruins, rocks and stones.
“I enjoyed working with the Greenspan team very much. The communication was very clear, very good and very concise. I wish every project would run as smooth as this one!”
Grant Johnson, general manager of City of Dreams Mediterranean, comments: “A landmark project and our first venture in Europe, it will bring Melco’s award-winning standards of entertainment and leisure and welcome innovation to Cyprus’ luxury hotel scene.
“We look forward to captivating our guests with contemporary design, first-class entertainment, and immersive experiences.”
Charlie Edwards, Greenspan’s commercial director, adds: “Working with Melco on this has been a genuine pleasure – their passion for bringing this world-class development to life has invigorated the Greenspan team even further and there has been palpable synergy.”
Greenspan Projects Ltd recently brought a colourful new 9-hole adventure golf course to the veranda of the Marella Voyager ship. The course features a coral reef and sea creatures.
