Can You Find the Strawberry Thief?

Can You Find the Strawberry Thief?

Lotmead Farm is situated in Swindon, Wiltshire. Established in the 1950s as a traditional dairy farm, it opened a pick-your-own in the mid 1980’s. The award winning PYO attracts thousands of families each year providing a range of activities and themed events.

The farm offers seasonal fruit and vegetables, a café and farm shop, children play area, small animal enclosure, dairy parlour and a nature trail with a bird hide.

Looking to enhance its visitor attraction the farm approached Greenspan Projects Ltd to help them create a bespoke play trail for families to enjoy alongside the PYO. The Farm owner wanted to make the most of the relatively narrow space available to draw people from one end of the field to the other. Greenspan’s creative team developed the concept to encapsulate the story of the strawberry thief, enticing children along the trail to discover who the strawberry thief is!

In-keeping with the farm surroundings and brand, the rustic, timber play trail offers varying degrees of challenge to engage both younger and older children. Old farm tools and props can be found along the way, adding interest to the trail at varying heights and elevations to achieve a more immersive experience. Hand-crafted timber strawberries embellish the trail, some with munches taken out of them to add to the intrigue…who is the strawberry thief?!

Storytelling signage encourages children along the trail where they will encounter a range of climbing features from rustic wooden crates, stepping posts, and wonky ladders, to climbing ropes and nets. Children can even hop across some quirky jam-filled sprung buckets!

The play trail was created on a relatively low budget, highlighting the benefits of bespoke design and build in terms of developing a unique, quality attraction to fit a particular space.

Greenspan’s creative design and build team enjoyed bringing the bespoke, fully themed play trail to life. It’s proving to be a very popular attraction with the farm visitors.

Hendra Holiday Park

Hendra Holiday Park is an award-winning holiday park located close to Cornwall’s north coast, near Newquay.

Hendra are Visit England winners, scooping a Bronze Award in the Camping, Glamping, and Holiday Park of the Year category 2023. They also went through to the Visit England finals after winning Gold at the South West Tourism’s Holiday Park of the Year. Hendra is a five-star destination, home to bespoke Hendra holiday homes as well as touringcamping, and caravan pitches to suit everyone’s holiday needs.

The word Hendra is Cornish for ‘Home Farm’ which is perfect for this family-run site, set up in 1972. They are home to a huge range of family-friendly activities and amenities, ranging from Oasis Fun Pools – one of the largest indoor fun pools in the South West, to live entertainment and kids’ activities.

Hendra Holiday Park asked Greenspan to design and build a 9-hole Palm Beach themed Adventure Golf Course for the opening of their 2024 season. Our designers took inspiration from the surrounding coastal towns when coming up with the initial concept design, with the intention of bringing Newquay’s fun, vibrant and family-friendly atmosphere straight back into this site. The team were able to achieve this by incorporating sea themed creatures, treasure chests, a revolving flashing lighthouse, life-sized surfboards and a gigantic deckchair – perfect for your family photos!

It was important for us to work closely with the client, be fully transparent and take them on the Greenspan journey. Ensuring that the final installation, not only reflected the initial concept design, that the client saw and loved, but exceeded their expectations was crucial. We have designed this course so that it can be played during the day and into the evening, by people of all ages and abilities to enjoy and create memorable moments that will last a lifetime. – Chris Marais, Project Manager.

Keeping it local… Our team pride themselves on supporting local companies and suppliers when completing our projects, which can be seen in the landscaping of this mini-golf course. All of the planting areas and rock edgings are constructed by locally sourced products which not only supports local businesses in the area, but also reflects and enhances the local environment.
